Mobile phone division of BenQ Corp. to be broken up    [ 26-02-2007 09:31 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova   Source: http://www.ap.org/     Translation by: Saliquincer    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Berlin;  The bankrupt German handset business of Taiwan's BenQ Corp. will be split up and sold, its insolvency administrator said Saturday.

"There is no longer a realistic chance of it being sold as a whole," spokesman Martin Prager said, confirming a report in Germany's Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

Munich-based BenQ Mobile filed for insolvency protection in September, a year after the Taiwanese firm took over the struggling unit from Siemens AG and began an unsuccessful bid to turn it around.

Prager would not comment on the newspaper's report that splitting up the firm would mean that almost all of the 3,000 jobs at the firm would be lost for good. Some 550 workers have already found new jobs, some of them with Siemens.

The remaining employees are to continue receiving most of their previous wages for up to a year under a transitional arrangement largely financed by Siemens.

Samsung phones get smaller    [ 26-02-2007 08:30 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Samsung Electronics has introduced its new model for the Korean market – the SPH-B6700. This is an heir of the SCH-V870, which is an analog of Samsung SGH-P300 for CDMA networks in its turn. Like its predecessors the phone is positioned as a credit card size phone and has the second name – Card Phone II.

The dimensions remained the same – 87x54 mm and weight – 79 g, the phone features the support of T-DMB standard, a 2-megapixel camera (instead of a 1.3-megapixel), an MP3-player and Bluetooth interface. Like the international version, the Card Phone II has an additional battery inside the leather case, so the phone lasts longer on a single charge.

The phone will be sold by KTF operator at the recommended price of 500 thousand Won, i.e. some $533.

Official site for i-mate Ultimate communicators    [ 26-02-2007 07:35 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The series of powerful Ultimate communicators by i-mate attracted much attention at 3GSM Congress. However the company just listed common features of the series without particular details. Only external sources provided details on the new series. Now the official info is available at the special page for the Ultimate series at company’s site.

I’d note the info from the page agreed with the photos published earlier by Todo Pocket PC source, i.e. there was a real leakage of official info.
