Author: Klimov Oleg     Translation by: Oleg Kononosov    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

On the opening day of 3GSM World Congress 2007 in Barcelona, Nokia has made a statement with a battery of new long-awaited models. One of the newcomers is Nokia N77 smartphone promoted under the «Live TV when you want it» tagline, which reveals positioning of the device as an ultimate solution for mobile television.

    Nokia N77

The foremost "flavor" of the handset is a bundled DVB-H tuner, allowing to get digital television onto the phone. The European market features enough channels  employing this very promising standard. Physically the N77 resembles Nokia N73 to a certain extent; huge, 2.4-inch display, capable of 16 mln. colors is the utmost maximum one could ever dream of for watching TV on the go, while stereo-sound will amplify overall experience.

    Nokia N77

With 2 Gb of memory onboard the N77 fits in the role of a music-playing handset, thankfully it packs support for MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+ and WMA formats. Apart from that Visual Radio feature can't be overlooked. Nokia N77 comes bundled with Nokia Audio Adapter for plugging in standard 3.5 mm headphones, 2 Mpix camera enabling you to take snaps at a resolution of up to 1600x1200 pixels.

    Nokia N77

Nokia N77 works within both 3G networks (WCDMA 2100 ÌÃö) and more widely spread GSM (900/1800/1900 MHz), and sports EDGE connectivity. The handset runs S60 3rd Edition and is scheduled for release in Q2 of 2007 at a price of 370 Euro in countries where DVB-H service is already available.

    Microsft unveils Windows Mobile 6.0    [ 12-02-2007 08:08 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova     Translation by: Saliquincer    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Microsoft has released Windows Mobile 6.0 OS at 3GSM in Barcelona, The OS, called Windows Mobile 6, will be available in the 2Q of 2007, offering an interface that resembles the recently launched Windows Vista.

With Windows Mobile 6, users will be able to view e-mails in their original HTML format and follow Web links from their phones. Windows Mobile 6 also will offer instant messaging and more robust editing capabilities for documents created in Office applications, such as Word and Excel. Formerly codenamed Crossbow, Windows Mobile 6 boasts better search capabilities than predecessors, and stronger.

Smartphones using the OS will be able to encrypt data stored internally on the device and also on a removable memory card. When used in enterprise settings, I.T. departments will be able to tweak security policies to require that users change their passwords regularly and use both numbers and letters, for example.

An additional change that has been put in place but will not come into play until later is support for Voice over Internet Protocol. Microsoft is not including software for VoIP calls, but has designed the system to allow carriers and device makers to include that capability if they wish to do so.

A number of vendors, including HP, Motorola and Toshiba have already announced their Windows Mobile 6 based offerings.
