SanDisk and Qimonda to Jointly Develop and Manufacture Mobile Storage Solutions    [ 29-04-2007 13:40 ]

SanDisk Corporation and Qimonda AG entered into an agreement to jointly develop and manufacture MCPs utilizing SanDisk's NAND flash and controllers and Qimonda's low power mobile DRAM. The collaboration targets the fast growing need for high capacity, integrated memory solutions of data-intensive mobile applications. This agreement will be executed through a jointly owned company based in Portugal, subject to closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.

The MCPs will be sold by Qimonda and SanDisk through their existing sales channels to mobile handset manufacturers. According to iSuppli, MCPs continue to be the preferred package type for placing embedded memory into mobile handsets. iSuppli projects MCP revenues in the mobile handset market to reach nine billion dollars by 2011 with NAND and mobile DRAM combinations being the vast majority of memory MB shipped in MCPs1.

SanDisk and Qimonda have a long history in the development and manufacturing of NAND flash memory and mobile DRAM, respectively. This joint venture creates a synergistic relationship that enables both companies to benefit from each others complementary memory technologies and to offer a broad range of NAND/mobile DRAM based MCP products. The collaboration allows both companies to take advantage of the technology strengths and manufacturing platform of the other while each company remains committed to its respective global markets.

Engineering samples are expected to be available for evaluation in the second half of 2007, with mass production planned towards the end of 2007.

Hitachi's new handset uses AuthenTec Fingerprint Sensor    [ 29-04-2007 13:32 ]

Author: Klimov Oleg   Source: http://www.pro-networks.org     Translation by: Saliquincer    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

AuthenTec, the world's leading provider of fingerprint authentication sensors and solutions, announced today that its AES1510 fingerprint sensor will be a standard feature on Hitachi's new flagship "win" series phone, the W51H. The introduction represents a number of "firsts" including the first time a fingerprint sensor will be used to control display navigation on a Japanese phone and the first time a biometric phone will be available to subscribers of Japan's second largest mobile network provider KDDI.

AuthenTec sensors are used in more than 95 percent of all fingerprint biometric cell phone models available worldwide. Biometric cell phones are widely used in Asia for mobile commerce (M-commerce) online banking and for securing the device in the event of loss or theft. Owners of the Hitachi W51H will benefit from these security features of the AES1510, and can also use the sensor as the primary control device for core user input functions such as scrolling and menu navigation.

The AES1510 fingerprint sensor is mounted below the W51H's first-of-a-kind high-resolution display that flips and swivels so that users can browse mobile web pages in an easily readable 2.9 inch 480 x 800 widescreen display. The robust AES1510 is specifically designed to withstand common wear and tear associated with an externally exposed sensor, such as the typical minor bumps and scratches caused by coins, keys and other objects. The AES1510 also enables secure and convenient near field communication (NFC) transactions used for mobile ticketing and check in, stored value, mobile credit, and Internet commerce payments.
