Palm doesn’t give up and is focused on winning back sales    [ 10-04-2007 12:52 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova   Source: The Economic Times     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

In an interview Palm CEO Ed Colligan said he ignored takeover calls, instead he is focused on winning back sales and outpacing Research In Motion and Nokia.

Palm’s Treo introduced in 2002 encouraged the creation of the market for cell phones offering the functions such as e-mail. This was apparently the reason for Research In Motion to expand its BlackBerry portfolio with a phone. Motorola and Nokia came next.

During the previous 2 years Palm was engaged in copying a design from major rivals and standardizing the platform to cut production costs and speed up the release of the products. Mr. colligan says using the same base will let the company create a new phone in 9 months. New devices built this way will be available this year. The CEO is about to discuss this strategy with investors soon.

Analysts suggest that Palm needs a real innovation device to keep competitive power.
