Xplore M70: a simple Palm OS smartphone    [ 12-10-2006 19:27 ]

GSPDA has released in Hong Kong its new smartphone Xplore M70. This is a low-end model ($250) powered by Palm OS. The device is equipped with a touchscreen LCD (176x220 pixels) and a digital keyboard. It supports GSM/GPRS networking and no 3G or Wi-Fi.

The specs of Xplore M70:

  • Operating system - Palm OS Garnet 5.4
  • GSM (900/1800/1900 MHz), GPRS Class 10
  • 32 MB RAM and 64 MB flash ROM

Access, the company which acquired PalmSource last year, has introduced a new image of its brand. The new logo and other design features create a visually new image and display changes in the company.

Simultaneously with the introduction of the new image the company reported its subsidiary PalmSource was renamed to ACCESS. The new logo is meant to introduce both Access and PalmSource as a united company. Besides Access unveiled its new international website, where you can find the info on it and PalmSource. In fact it would replace separate sites of the companies.

Rover has introduced a new communicator RoverPC G5. It features a good set of functions – a powerful processor, GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, IrDA, GPS-receiver (external module), organizer, MP3-player, photo camera, FM-radio.

The device is powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC running on Intel Bulverde 520 MHz.

RoverPC G5 is equipped with a 2.7” 262K color LCD, 64 MB RAM, 128 MB flash ROM, a miniSD slot. The communicator has a big set of preinstalled programs for communication and search: Agile Messenger (MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, AOL clients).

Being relatively small RoverPC G5 (102x58x19.5 mm, 137 g) has a 2-megapixel camera, a multimedia player, an FM-radio and organizer. The sales of the communicator are set for the beginning of September 2006.

Nokia has entered the list of companies offering WiMax network solutions. The company announced the Flexi WiMAX Base Station working on 2.5 GHz. It will be commercially available late in 2007.

In 1Q 2008 the company will introduce the Flexi WiMAX Base Station working on 3.5 GHz. Besides Nokia expects to release WiMax compatible devices in 2008.

Nokia is the member of WiMAX Forum and participated in developing a mobile WiMAX standard – IEEE 802.16e-2005.
