According to Nokia, the Internet is the key driving force for the next phase of mobile industry growth. At the current Nokia World 2006 event in Amsterdam, Nokia’s spokesmen outlined that the mobile market was changing faster than expected earlier.
The industry is expected to reach the milestone of 3 billion mobile subscriptions globally in 2007 instead of 2008. Nokia predicts that the market will reach 4 billion global subscriptions during 2010.
Music, navigation and mobile TV services will play a key role in driving the growth both in advanced and emerging markets, where in the latter growing number of users are accessing the Internet for the first time on their mobile rather than PC. Nokia estimated that the replacement market will account for 65% of the global market this year and over 80% by 2010.
