Canon stops working on film cameras    [ 26-05-2006 14:28 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: http://www.itar-tass.com     Translation by:    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The Japanese company Canon stops working on film cameras, which are inevitably replaced by digital cameras. The president of Canon, the world leading maker of DS cameras, said today at the conference in Tokyo.

He called the contraction of the film camera market a call of time, as the digital cameras are much comfortable. It became commercially unprofitable to develop new film cameras, as they are in demand mainly by enthusiasts and those who don’t want to switch to digital cameras. However Canon will keep on releasing current film camera models till the demand remains.

Apple patents another cool stuff for its iPod players. The company seems to go farther than the cooperation with Nike. We’ve recently written, the companies plan to release a sport kit. Or the new idea might be implemented within the cooperation.

Apple wants to add an opportunity to adjust music tempo and style of an iPod player with accelerometer to the exercise. For example, a melody with faster tempo will be played, when the user accelerates his run.

Earlier this week Motorola and Verizon Wireless have announced the soon release (from May 31) of a long-awaited slim communicator Motorola Q. The phone is positioned as the rival to the BlackBerry and Treo.

The company expects Motorola Q to have the popularity of Motorola RAZR. Motorola estimated that the sales over the first 90 days would reach 750 thousand devices, over the next 90 days – 1.5 million and over another 3 months – 3 million.

These are the figures close to the RAZR achievements, which helped the company increase its market share and get closer to the leader – Nokia.

You’ll hardly surprise anybody with a slim phone now, however the manufacturers felt the idea successful and release slim phones one by one.

Several months ago there was preliminary info on the slim clamshell phone under the code name Katana by Sanyo. Now there is a photo of the phone in good quality. We can see a logo of the US operator Sprint. By the way, the model is called Sanyo 6600.

This clamshell will be inexpensive, it is rumored to have $100 price tag. It is equipped with a 2.2” internal LCD, a VGA-camera and Bluetooth interface.
