3G Americas has estimated the ratio of subscribers choosing GSM services (GSM, GPRS, EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA) to others 10 to 1.

In 1Q 2006 the GSM subscribers’ base grew almost by 120 million, while the CDMA base (including CDMA2000 1x EV-DO) accounted for some 12 million.

Currently the GSM base makes up 1.85 billion, 81% from the world subscribers’ base, and the CDMA – less than 300 million or 13%.

The South Korean company Samsung has unveiled today its new DMB mobile phone. It will have the SCH-B490 index and feature a 3.2-megapixel camera with auto focus, the support of microSD cards and Bluetooth, a rotating 16M color LCD.

Samsung SCH-B490 is designed for CDMA networks supporting high-speed data transfer CDMA2000 1xEV-DO, MOD/VOD services (music/video on demand). The new phone is expected on the South Korean market at about 700 thousand Won ($745).

The US operator Sprint has announced the release of a phone called the FUSIC made by LG (the model was introduced as LG LX50 at the CTIA show in April). The phone is mainly meant for music and entertainment. The company positions it as the device looking like and playing music like a compact player. It is packed in a folding form, there is a navigation pad to control music on the front panel.

There is the support of high-speed data transfer standard EV-DO and operator’s music service – Sprint Music Store to download full featured music tracks. The phone is quite compact and slim for its class.

The FUSIC comes with a media player, an FM-transmitter (it’s possible to transmit music to car stereo system, for example), stereo speakers, a 1.3-megapixel camera with flash and digital zoom and video capture opportunity. You can print photos directly due to PictBridge technology. The phone can be used as a modem connected to PC via Bluetooth or USB. There is the support of stereo sound transfer to a Bluetooth-headset.

The main specs of the FUSIC:

  • Internal TFT LCD, 176x220 pixels, 262K colors
  • External TFT LCD, 96x96 pixels, 65K colors
  • 1.3-megapixel camera
  • Media player and FM-transmitter
  • Bluetooth and USB interfaces

  • Talk time – up to 4.5 hours
  • Dimensions – 96.5x48.3x20.3 mm
  • Weight - 119 g

The sales start on May 28. The price makes up $329.99 or $179.99 in case of a two-year contract.
