The CDMA2000 subscribers’ base exceeded 250 million

CDG (CDMA Development Group) has reported another achievement in the development of CDMA2000 networks. The number of 3G-suscribers to CDMA2000 networks exceeded 250 million in 1Q 2006. The operators gained 25 million new subscribers over the first 3 months of 2006.
The strong growth was in American and Asian markets. At the same time the number of subscribers to CDMA2000 1xEV-DO services grew by 6 million to 30 million users.>

Samsung releases a notebook and a UMPC on flash-memory instead of HDD

Samsung Electronics has announced its intention to be the world first company releasing computers with built-in SSD (solid state disk) based on NAND flash-memory 32 GB instead of HDD.
The pioneers will be an ultra mobile PC Samsung Q1 and a 12.1” notebook Q30, their versions with SSD (Q30-SSD and Q1-SSD) will become available early in June. The price for the Q1-SSD will make up some $2430, the Q30-SSD - $3700.
These drives have some advantages against HDD. According to Samsung, read speed of SSD is by 300% higher (53 Mbps) and write speed – by 150% higher (28 Mbps) than HDD. In result, Windows XP will take by 25-50% less time to be launched. Besides the standard 1.8” HDD weighs about 50 g, while SSD weighs 20-30 g. The company promises the new notebook will work soundless. Other advantages include higher durability and longer battery life on a single charge.

Sony Ericsson V630i: a “new” phone exclusively for Vodafone

Today Sony Ericsson has announced its mobile phone V630i, which will be released exclusively for Vodafone operator. The model seems to be the version of the K610i introduced at 3GSM Congress.
The phone supports UMTS 3G-networks and equipped with a 1.9” LCD, a 2-megapixel camera with 2x digital zoom and a VGA-camera, a music player (MP3, AAC, AAC+ and eAAC+), an expansion slot for Memory Stick Micro (M2) cards. It’s possible to work with e-mail and RSS-feed. There is an HTML-browser. The V630i supports Bluetooth EDR and USB 2.0.
The phone differs in the support of new Vodafone service – Radio DJ, an interactive stream music service, which allows creating own music channels. Besides there is the support of video telephony and Vodafone live! with mobile TV. Vodafone is to release Sony Ericsson V630i in June. The sales package will contain a 256 MB card.
