Nokia E50: the smallest smartphone in the E-series

Nokia has announced a new model for business – the E50 smartphone. It is positioned as the smallest and slimmest E-series model. The device is made in classical design and meant for business and leisure, though the focus is on business functionality.
In particular, there are business-applications preinstalled, special functions for voice calls and the opportunity to use two numbers in one phone. On the other hand, it is equipped with an MP3-player and a 1.3-megapixel camera (optionally). There is the support of quad-band GSM networking. The battery life in talk mode makes up 6 hours.
The E50 is powered by s60 3rd edition Symbian OS. It supports popular corporate solutions for e-mail Intellisync Wireless Email by Nokia, BlackBerry Connect, Visto Mobile, Altexia and Microsoft ActiveSync.
UpDate, Nokia has posted more details on the new phone. The company expects to release it in 2Q 2006.

Sony Ericsson Z710: a new clamshell for business

Sony Ericsson has also announced its folding phone Z710. It is designed for people working intensively, who look for a phone for both business and leisure. The phone supports EDGE data transfer standard and comes with the set of business and entertainment functions.
Business functions include HTML-browser Access NetFront, e-mail, RSS feed and PC synchronization. The Z710 is equipped with a 2-megapixel camera with video capture, a media player and an FM-radio with RDS. There is the support of Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP profile (communicating stereo sound).
The shipments will start in 3Q. The sales package includes a 64MB Memory Stick Micro (M2) card. I’d mark that the Z710 is similar to the W710 with slight differences.

Sony Ericsson announces its W850 slider

As it was expected Sony Ericsson has announced today a series of new phones. A long-awaited Walkman slider W850 is among them. The company positions it as its first GSM/UMTS slider.
It is equipped with a 2-megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, video capture opportunity and flash. The device supports video playback and video telephony. It has HTML-browser, it can work with RSS, e-mail and Macromedia Flash. There is also the support of music downloading from OTA (over the air) services by cell operators and playback of several music formats, including e-AAC+.
The W850 comes with Wlakman player 2.0 simplifying navigation by genre, playlists and albums. Besides there is TrackID function based on Gracenote Mobile MusicID – new service, which implies you can record a piece of a track even via a mic or built-in radio and then send it to Gracenote database and get the info on the track. It is possible to transfer stereo via Bluetooth. The shipments of the phone will start in 3Q 2006. There will be a 1 GB MS PRO Duo card supplied.
