Nokia sees the end of MP3-player and video camcorder makers    [ 22-03-2006 12:15 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova   Source: Reuters     Translation by:    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

In the interview to the Financial Times Anssi Vanjoki, head of the multimedia unit at Nokia, said that soon cell phones will have a final blow to music devices and video camcorders. He pointed to Nokia’s 2000 forecast of the death of the photo industry that the same fate was in store for other sectors.

Last year Nokia released 100 million camera phones, making it the largest camera manufacturer. Among famous photo industry players Konica Minolta said in January it would withdraw from the business, and Agfa-Gevaert sold its once famous photographic unit in 2004. According to Anssi Vanjoki, in the next 6-12 months there will be more of these announcements. The next to disappear will be the makers of music devices and video cameras. Last year Nokia made 40 million music phones and planned to double this in 2006.
