The German Fraunhofer IIS (Fraunhofer-Institut für Integrierte Schaltungen) institute has said that this week at the CeBIT show it will demonstrate devices supporting DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting Handheld), which are developed together with BenQ Mobile.

The devices will have preinstalled DVB-H software by Fraunhofer IIS. BenQ Mobile products with the support of DVB-H are expected to emerge on the market only in 2007. BenQ Mobile will probably unveil more related details at the upcoming exhibition.

The American company Texas Instruments has announced a new line of video chips supporting true-color mode and high resolution of video content in mobile devices. The new FlatLink3G chip provides high-speed data transfer between LCD and mobile application processor, which can be one of TI OMAP series. The subLVDS (sub-low voltage differential signaling) interface allows transferring color 24-bit RGB signal and supporting the resolution range from QVGA to XGA, including VGA. This will add more distinct and real video picture to cell phones and digital cameras.

The Flat Link3G chips are compatible with LCD modules and interfaces by Himax Technologies, Hitachi Displays, Renesas Technology LCDBU, Samsung SDI and Sanyo Epson Imaging Devices.

Samsung Electronics has announced today its new record-breaker the SGH-i310 phone. It carries 8GB HDD onboard. To be more exact, this is a smartphone powered by Windows Mobile 5.0.

The SGH-i310 is equipped with a 2-megapixel camera with flash and video capture function, a slot for microSD (TransFlash) cards, a TV-out, USB 2.0 interface. Besides it can be used as an external storage drive. It also has stereo speakers, digital amplifier and the support of A2DP Bluetooth-profile.

The new phone will be exhibited at the CeBIT show starting on March 9 in Hanover. The SGH-i310 is expected to come out in Europe in the second half this year.
