ASUSTeK announces the release of its UMPC R2H    [ 25-08-2006 19:16 ]

ASUSTeK Computer has announced the release of an ultra mobile PC ASUS R2H. This UMPC was announced at CeBIT 2006 in March. The R2H is equipped with a GPS-module, a fingerprints sensor and an integrated Web-camera.

As for the connectivity, there are Bluetooth 2.0 EDR and Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g). Besides it involves ASPM (ASUS Security Protect Management) technology for multi-level authentication system.

The specs of ASUS R2H:

  • 7” touchscreen WXGA LCD
  • Intel Celeron M ULV 900 MHz processor
  • 256 MB DDRII RAM (optionally p to 768 MB)
  • 1.8” HDD capacious of 20, 30, 40 or 60 GB

  • Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
  • SD slot
  • Dimensions – 234x133x28 mm
  • Weight - 830 g
  • Operating system Windows XP Tablet PC Edition

Samsung to introduce a dual-mode T-DMB phone at IFA    [ 25-08-2006 15:03 ]

At IFA 2006 show in Berlin Samsung Electronics will introduce a cellphone SGH-P600D. Â stands for dual-mode. Unlike SGH-P900 introduced in Germany early in summer and supporting T-DMB, the new phone can receive signal in L-band.

Currently L-band provides access to some additional radio programs, and in theory it can be used to broadcast up to 4 extra TV-channels.

DMB standard for mobile TV-broadcasting is already effective in 6 cities in Germany – Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Nuremberg. 6 new cities are expected to enter the territory of the standard.

Yesterday the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved a HDD player by Toshiba. It is called the Zune and fully complies with the rumors on the future Microsoft player. Even the photos are similar.

Probably, Toshiba will be the manufacturer of the Zune players under Microsoft brand.

Toshiba has announced 2 new SD flash card series featuring high speed of data transfer and recording. The Speed Class 4 SD cards will ensure up to 5 Mbps data transfer speed, and the Speed Class 6 SD – up to 20 Mbps.

Both series will be released this October in Japan and worldwide in November. They will be available with 512 MB, 1 GB or 2 GB of flash memory onboard. The Speed Class 4 SD and the Speed Class 6 SD will be exhibited at IFA 2006 in Berlin, September 1-16.
