Korean PMP makers do not stop surprising us with plenty of new models launched to the market, with excellent technical specs, wide functionality, but the major share of them won’t go outside the Korean market.

Samsung developed a 3” VGA-display for digital cameras    [ 10-08-2006 13:17 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova     Translation by:    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Samsung Electronics has announced its development, a TFT-display module with a 3” diagonal and VGA (640x480 pixel) resolution. According to the company, this is the world first display with the specs complying with interface standards for digital cameras.

The digital camera makers apply ITU-R601 standard meant for CRT-displays working on 30 Hz. Ordinary LCD screens work on 60 Hz and aren’t directly compatible, thus display makers are forced to compensate for this gap by compressing the image or manipulating with the signal. Samsung says, such methods can be applied only with LCD screens of QVGA (320x240 pixels) resolution or lower. The new Samsung display works on 30 Hz and thus can receive VGA-image from the camera omitting additional interfaces.

Besides the display involves point inversion scheme, which lowers power consumption and area flicker effect. Lower power consumption is enabled by lower frequency.

The company will introduce the new module on August 23 at IMID 2006 show in Korea. It scheduled the commercial production for the first half of 2007.
