WiMAX – 21 million mobile users in 2012    [ 01-08-2006 12:06 ]

Author: Klimov Oleg   Source: eetimes     Translation by:    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

According to the forecast of Juniper Research, the number of WiMAX networks users will exceed the number of “fixed” ones and equal 21.3 million in 2012. As for 2007, the analysts estimated that the number of WiMAX users would rise to 1.7 million.

This statistics can’t but bother main makers of mobile phones and equipment staking on 3G networks. Nokia, Ericsson, Nortel and Siemens treat mobile WiMAX as a serious competitor to 3G. The WiMAX equipment market would reach an impressive mark of $2.53 billion in 2012.

Author: Verà Kozlova     Translation by:    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Alltel Wireless operator has announced the release of a cellphone LG AX490 equipped with an original keyboard Fastap by Digit Wireless. The Fastap is a keyboard with 26 letter buttons among customary digital buttons. They are meant for fast text input. This keyboard is already applied in LG 6190 released by the Canadian operator Telus Mobility in 2004. LG AX490 is the only phone in the US with such keyboard, says Alltel.

Without the Fastap keyboard LG AX490 has nothing special about it. It is sport car styled phone equipped with a 128x160x262K colors LCD, a VGA-camera with flash, a speakerphone and Bluetooth interface.

The sales of LG AX490 start on August 3. The price tag after signing a 2-years service contract is $59.99 (a $40 discount).
