Pirelli announced a dual mode GSM/Wi-Fi phone Discus DualPhone DP-L10    [ 25-04-2006 18:05 ]

Pirelli Broadband Solutions, a member of Pirelli Group, has recently announced its first dual mode phone Pirelli Discus DualPhone DP-L10, which will debut in Stockholm at VON Europe conference on May 16-18.

The DP-L10 can work in GSM cell networks and Wi-Fi (802.11g) wireless networks as a VoIP phone. The switch between GSM and Wi-Fi can be done automatically or on demand.

The device can work with the Internet, with e-mail, SMS and MMS. There is the support of GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz networks and GPRS standard. Its LCD has a 128x128 pixel resolution and displays up to 65K colors. There is an integrated VGA-camera. The phone is made in a classical form, its dimensions are 106x46x18 mm. Currently the model is on compatibility tests at several leading European operators.

The last new model in the N-series for today is Nokia N72. This is a simpler model than the N73. The device is equipped with a 2-megapixel camera, built-in music player, FM-radio supporting Visual Radio and special buttons to control the camera and the player.

The camera has the flash and can snap photos and video. There are photo and video editors installed in the device. Its LCD has a 2.1” diagonal.







Nokia N72 doesn’t support 3G networks, it works in GSM and EDGE networks only. The new phone is expected to appear in shops in June.

The next new N-series model is Nokia N73, which also features advanced opportunities of its digital camera, however not that impressive like in Nokia N93. This smartphone is equipped with a 3.2-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens and auto focus function. It is possible to send photos to Internet communities like Flickr.com.



Besides the device has stereo speakers supporting 3D-sound. Like the N93 Nokia N73 is powered by S60 3rd Edition platform. Its LCD has a large size for a candy bar form – a 2.4” diagonal. There are an FM-tuner, an MP3-player, a front VGA-camera for video telephony and Bluetooth interface.



The smartphone has quite compact size with the volume less than 90 cm3. Nokia N73 can be used in 3G, GSM and EDGE networks. The release is expected in July.

Today Nokia has introduced new N-series models in Berlin. These are the successor of Nokia N90 – Nokia N93 and two heirs of the N70 – the N72 and N73. Let’s start with Nokia N93. The smartphone is equipped with a 3.2-megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom (like an average digital still camera) and 20x digital zoom.

Its camera is equipped with Carl Zeiss lens and can shoot video in MPEG4 format at VGA resolution and 30 fps, and according to the company, with DVD-quality. The shooting runs with stereo sound and digital steady shot. There is an opportunity to display video and video on a TV screen, besides video can be recorded to DVD with Adobe Premier Elements 2.0 supplied in the kit.

The phone is equipped with a 2.4” QVGA 240x320x262K color LCD. There is a stereo FM-radio and a music player. In addition to 50 MB of internal memory is a slot for miniSD cards (up to 2 GB).

The smartphone is meant for WCDMA networks and supports GSM (900/1800/1900 MHz), EDGE, Wi-Fi and PnP technology (Universal Plug and Play). The N93 is powered by S60 3rd Edition platform of Symbian OS. The release if Nokia N93 is scheduled for this July. The approximate price makes up ˆ550.
