RIM's fortunes aren't been done any favours by their latest North American ad campaign according to research firm Canaccord Genuity. The firm says that sales of RIM's BlackBerry 7 devices, specifically the Bold 9900 and Curve 9360 were weak during the previous month. That's despite RIM's 'Be Bold' ad campaign. Mik Walkley, an analyst with Canaccord explained:
With very strong share gains for the iPhone 4S, increasingly price-competitive Android smartphones, improving Windows smartphones, and the likely March 7 launch of the iPad , we anticipate increasing competition across all of RIM's products during 2012.
Walkley believes that RIM is prepping two new devices, at the lower end of the market, for launch within the coming months that will help them better target emerging markets. However, they will be something of a double edged sword for the company according to Walkley as they will also help drive RIM's average selling price lower. He expects RIM to fail to meet analyst estimates for their first quarter.

Samsung Galaxy S II owners should be getting a tase of Ice Cream Sandwich come 15th March according to Samsung's Israeli outfit. They posted up a Facebook message earlier today giving customers the good news:
We promised we were working on it. You waited patiently. And on 15 March it'll arrive. Android version 4, ICS, to tens of thousands of GALAXY SII devices purchased from cellular companies in the country or directly from us. We are very excited for the launch, hope you are too.
The Facebook message has since been taken down so whether that means it was posted in error or not isn't clear. However, the message appears to be pretty specific, saying that both locked and unlocked Galaxy SII handsets will be updated. Whether the message is indicative of an Israeli only update or foretells a wider update isn't clear either.
