Review GSM-phone Siemens SX1. The display

Review Siemens SX1. Summary>>

But let’s get back to the phone’s outlook. The TFT screen is capable of showing up to 65000 colors. The picture looks sharp, the colors are saturated enough. Screen’s resolution is 176x220 pixels (34x44 mm), this allows displaying up to 6 text lines and extra lines for soft-key headings, as well as graphical environment. Unlike Nokia’s smartphones the screen’s resolution is 12 pixels more vertically (alike Sendo X). On one hand this difference is not very significant, but on the other it’s enough to make the service line that displays service icons being present in all menus. Here and below the pictures are shown without this extra line, but keep in mind that it’s present.

The screen behaves nicely when it hits direct sunlight, the picture loses its saturation, however it remains clearly visible (alike the competitors). If we don’t compare the screen’s brightness, then it looks comfortable enough. However if you compare it with Nokia 6600, then the brightness is certainly less for SX1. The manufacturers had to cut the brightness level in order to enlarge the battery’s lifecycle. On the whole the problems with every saving were one of the most actual ones during SX1’s development process.

Mechanical affect on the screen during text input via keypad is a certain unpleasant feature. If you look closely at the screen you will notice waves creeping away, as if the screen got pressed directly, they can be spotted on the phone’s sides. Basically this means that after long usage term of this phone, there is a risk that side pixels will burnout. You can make sure about this unpleasant feature by pressing upper or lower buttons on the SX1’s keyboard, just look at the nearest location on the screen while doing it. Weak key press doesn’t lead to wave’s appearance, that’s why you have to learn how to balance the pressure being put on the keyboard. We’ve made a short video clip in order to demonstrate you these waves, the picture was made blurry in order you to notice the wave distribution among the nearest location of buttons being pressed. Take a look at the pressing and the wave that appears right after that.

Video clip 2.2 Mb, AVI

To cut the long story short, the screen is neither the best, neither the worst in its segment. It deals nicely with its tasks, bigger resolution can be counted as an advantage, and meanwhile the presence of keyboard’s input reaction reflected on the screen can be counted as the disadvantage.
