Amazon Appstore Is 1 Year Old: App Deals All Week Long To Celebrate    [ 15-03-2012 18:45 ]

Amazon's appstore, the originally titled Amazon Appstore, is celebrating its first birthday. To celebrate the milestone Amazon is holding a week long bonanza of deals on some of the more popular apps in the store. Over the past year the selection of apps in the store has expanded eightfold, from just 4,000 apps to now more than 31,000. That actually makes it more successful than some other, more established app stores. Announcing the deals Aaron Rubenson, director of the appstore, said:

Customers ahave used the Amazon Appstore to test drive and buy millions of apps and games for their Kindle Fire and other Android devices in the first year alone. To thank customers for shopping with us, we worked closely with our developers to offer special discounts on some of the most popular apps all week long.

Samsung, LG & Others Fined For Price Fixing    [ 15-03-2012 18:42 ]

Author: Ivanov Konstantin   Source: Korea Times     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

South Korean telecoms regulators have been giving Souh Korea's mobile manufacturers a slap on the wrist following allegations of price fixing. Manufacturers such as Samsung, LG, Pantech, SK Telecom and others were collectively fined 45.3 billion won, which is roughly $40.2 million). SK came in for the biggest fine at 20.2 billion whilst Samsung was fined 14.2 billion. The fines came as the companies were said to have been secretly agreeing to inflate the cost of handsets whilst advertiisng handsets with various incentives. That meant that consumers were tricked into buying new handsets for what they thought was a bargain. The companies involved have now been ordered to release information concerning those incentives as well receiving bans from offering them in the future.
