Bloomberg: Amazon Smartphone Is Coming    [ 06-07-2012 16:41 ]

Amazon's Kindle Fire heralded a pretty successful foray into the hardware space for the cloud based giant retailer. No doubt that came in no small part due to Amazon's aggressive pricing strategy. For Amazon's next trick we need look no further than a martphone! That's the news according to Bloomberg at least who are citing anonymous sources who are saying that Amazon is prepping to jump into the smartphone market. Details at this stage are quite obviously sketchy, if indeed said rumour proves true, but even so it is probably a safe bet to assume that Amazon would be looking to use the same sort of Android setup that it used for th Kindle Fire. Amazon is well placed for the smartphone world at least with its own distribution network, its own appstore and media delivery. Still the report claims that Amazon is looking to secure wireless patents before it goes live with its smartphone, most likely to try and safeguard its new device from the massive legal battles that have engulfed the rest of the industry.
