A trademark filing in Europe has tongues wagging that HTC is planning a new UI skin for its upcoming Android tablet(s).
The filing is for the trademark 'Sensation', which, being similar to 'Sense', HTC's current Android UI for smartphones has some thinking that we are looking at the genesis of a new tablet UI. It would certainly make sense for them to implement a new UI for tablets given the different screen sizes and features that a tablet will bring over a smartphone.
Of course the filing could be for a name for a new handset too and the filing lists the following as being the target of the name being registered:
Mobile phones, smartphones, wireless phones, wireless devices, portable computers and personal digital assistants, computer hardware and software for mobile, portable and wireless devices; user interface software; computer hardware and software for user interfacing, telecommunications and telecommunications services; computer hardware and software for transmitting and receiving voice, image, data, audio, video and multimedia content; wireless modems; headsets, headsets with wireless transmission function, connection cables, cradles, mounts, face plates, batteries, power adaptors, chargers, cases, in-vehicle chargers, in-vehicle holders, remote controls, keyboards, microphones, loudspeakers, leather pouches for mobile phones
An Android tablet is definitely in the works and now we perhaps have another little piece of it here.

Getting the venerable HTC HD2 to run Android or Windows Phone 7 isn't new, but getting both of those operating systems to sit side by side on the same device is. The boffins at XDA Devs have managed to cram the two OS onto the same SD card for a dual boot option.
It doesn't look particularly easy, but if you want to have a bash then check out the instructions.

Android enthusiasts seem to have launched a new space race with increasing numbers of handsets powered by Google's OS being sent into space, usually through a high altitude balloon that takes the handset to the edge of space. Well now a team of British engineers plans to put the first Android handset into orbit around the Earth.
The team is based at Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL) and they are doing it to see how well modern smartphones can survive in the harsh environment of space. The actual model of the handset hasn't been decided yet, but it will be an Android device for sure as the open source nature of the OS means that the team can tweak it to their purposes more easily than other mobile operating systems.
The handset will be attached to a satellite, which will initially be controlled by an onboard computer, but eventually the plan is to switch control of the satellite over to the handset as Doug Liddle, head of science at SSTL explained "We're trying to use as much of the capability of the phone as possible. Ideally, the phone can take control and do the thinking".
The satellite will feature a GPS unit, communications equipment and navigation and control systems, including innovative pulse plasma thrusters, all of which it is hoped the phone will control.
SSTL is renowned for operating small satellites and has reduced the cost of many of the subsystems associated with satellites. Chris Bridges from the Surrey Space Centre commented: "If a smartphone can be proved to work in space, it opens up lots of new technologies to a multitude of people and companies for space who usually can't afford it. It's a real game-changer for the industry".
At this rate we can probably expect to see an Android on Mars before a man!

Sony Ericsson proudly unveiled its newest Android handset, the Xperia arc, at CES, but since then there has actually been relatively little in the way of hands on material with the handset. No need to fret though as the chaps at HDBlog.it have gotten themselves a couple of arcs and have put them through their paces on video for your viewing pleasure!
