Smaller Cheaper iPhone Being Planned?    [ 10-02-2011 19:26 ]

One of the defining features of the iPhone has been the consistency of the design, the form factor has remained the same with design changes being relatively minor. That hasn't stopped people speculating over the years on all manner of different form factors that might be in the pipeline, probably the most famous of which is the 'iPhone Nano'.

A new report from Bloomberg claims that something like the fabled iPhone Nano is actually in the works and could be unveiled this summer. According to an unnamed source who spoke with Bloomberg and who claims to have seen the device it could go on sale for as little as $200 without contract and is said to be about two thirds the size of the current iPhone 4.

The device apparently supports both GSM and CDMA networks, which wouldn't be a huge shock given that a CDMA version of the iPhone 4 has just been released in America, but it is also said to support a Universal SIM to allow customers to switch between networks. If that last point proves correct the networks may not be very happy.

The price is a point of contention too given the iPhone's traditional status as a premium product, but then again with the likes of Android diversifying into the mid-range and even lower end markets Apple may be looking to expand its appeal to grow its marketshare

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: IntoMobile     Translation by: Paul Smith    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Twitter's official app for Android has been receiving some love in the form of an update. The new version brings with it a new look, gone is a lot of the blue anyone who has used previous versions will be familiar with and there are also some spiffy search features.

You can now use what Twitter are calling 'Universal Search', which lets you search for a term either in a broad fashion or by specifying it down to something a little more focused, such as limiting your search term to those in your locality or those mentioning the term in their tweets.

Another new feature is the option to use the service without having to sign in.Obviously you won't be able to tweet, but you can still view trending topics.

Commenting on the the new version Twitter described the new version:

When you first sign in, you’ll see your timeline, along with icons along the top that let you view @mentions, messages, and lists. This layout makes it fast and simple to navigate Twitter on your Android device. Also, the @mentions tab now includes Retweets; seeing replies and Retweets in one place offers a quick way to better understand which Tweets are sparking interest and engagement. In addition, we introduced auto-complete for usernames.
