Google's Eric Schmidt has been talking up Android.Ok so no surprise there, but his audience at the Le Web conference in Paris apparently didn't share his rosy outlook for the platform. Schmidt was recounting a tale about being asked why apps are often written for iOS before then being ported over to Android. Schmidt's reply to the question was to say that in six months time it would be the other way around. The audience's reaction? Silence. Probably not the reaction Schmidt was hoping for.
He then went on to say that Android's open nature meant that it would have volume on its side and that is what Schmidt feels will attract developers. Ice Cream Sandwich, according to Schmidt, would help to deal with fragmentation in Android and with that out of the way the huge number of different vendors would help to make next year the year Android cemented its position as the number one platform in the world.
Will any of this happen? Who knows, but it's not impossible. The thing is though iOS isn't some two bit effort relying on good will and moonbeams for survival. It's proven extremely popular and resilent to down turns. Where others have been losing ground to Android iOS has either held strong or in some cases even improved its own position slightly.

Android Phone Name Generator pretty much does what it says on the tin. Click the button and watch as a name appears. Now presumably this site is intended for comedic purposes, you know a spot of fun, a bit of a laugh and so on. The really funny thing though is that the names it comes up with all sound perfectly legitimate. They could very well be real product names. A few examples:
Acer Legend Vivid Pro G2
Sony Ericsson Desire Plus
Samsung Nexus Epic 2 4G S
Motorola Thunderbolt Touch One Plus Pro
Go try it for yourself, but be warned it is slightly addictive.
