LG look set to raise their game in 2010 as they announce their intention to sell 140 million handsets! That represents a 20% increase over their 2009 sales, a huge jump, but one that will be necessary if they are to realise their ambition of becoming the 2nd largest handset manufacturer by 2012. The most obvious markets they'll be looking at to increase sales are developing countries, but they are also set on making  abig push in North America and their homeground of South Korea where arch-rival Samsung holds sway.

The plan will include the release of up to twenty smartphones that will run the gamut of Android, Linux and WinMo and LG are paying parrticular attention to Android it seems with a spokesperson saying "Hopes are especially high for Android phones". At the moment LG isn't a major player in the Android world, but over half their new smartphones are allegedly going to run the open source OS. Lower-end smartphones look set to dominate in the first half of 2010 with LG turning its focus to the higher-end in the latter stage of the year. Whether they can take the number 2 spot by 2012 remains to be seen, especially with Samsung bearing down on them.
