HTC's second Android-based handset, codenamed Sapphire possibly arriving in May    [ 23-01-2009 20:59 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: DigiTimes     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Apparently, HTC will be launching its second mobile phone, running on Google's Android OS (the first of which being the T-Mobile G1), which is codenamed Sapphire, sometime in May. Previously, it was thought a second Android-based device from HTC would be launching around March or April, but this seems to no longer be the case. The Sapphire should be available on both the Vodafone and T-Mobile networks - the G1 is a T-Mobile exclusive. On top of that, expect more Android-powered devices to be unveiled by HTC sometime in the second quarter of the year.

Sony Ericsson C903 - codenamed Frances spotted    [ 23-01-2009 20:44 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: SEMC Blog     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

An upcoming Cybershot-branded mobile phone, from Sony Ericsson, known as the C903 - codenamed as Frances has been leaked. The C903 is another slider Cybershot phone, which somewhat resembles the company's flagship Cybershot model - the C905. Given the lover index number, it's expected that the C903 won't have a feature set identical to the higher-end C905. For example, the C905 has an 8MP lens, whereas the C903 has a 5MP lens. As you'd expect, the C903 comes with a host ofcameraphone features - autofocus, active lens cover, face detection, and so forth.

Aside from the camera, it's known that the C903 comes equipped with a 2.4" display, with the QVGA resolution, as well as A-GPS functionality. It's likely that Sony Ericsson will officially announce the C903, at the Mobile World Congress, to be held between the 16th and 19th of February, in Barcelona, Spain. As for a release date, the C903 should hit the market at the end of the second quarter of this year.

Nokia's friendly priced touchscreen handset - the 5800 XpressMusic, can now be called a success, after it was revealed by Nokia that they had shipped one million units of the 5800, since its launch last October, despite it not being readily available in some regions.

It remains to be seen how well the 5800 will do, for example, in the United Kingdom, where it has just launched today, for the price of £249/$340/€265, including 15% VAT. It can either be purchased online, from the Nokia Shop UK store, or via the company's flagship store, located in Regent Street, London.

Author: Klimov Oleg   Source: SEMC Blog     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Two Sony Ericsson handsets that were known about late last year - Filippa and Yao, are now known to be the C901 and W395 respectively. The C901, which is a candybar handset, is part of Sony Ericsson's Cybershot line of handsets, and will come equipped with a 5 MP camera, with autofocus, and an Xenon flash, and should be available sometime in April. It'll be available in a choice of three colour schemes - black, silver, and peach.

The W395 slider is the Walkman version of the company's F305 handset. It features such things as a 2" 176 x 200 resolution screen, 2 MP camera, and M2 memory card slot, which can take up to an 8GB M2 card. It's possible that it'll be announced next month, at the Mobile World Congress, so may become available on the market sometime in the Spring season.
