Samsung to develop five megapixel camera sensors for Nokia    [ 14-05-2008 17:19 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Unwiredview     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Nokia has chosen fellow handset maker Samung, to supply them with five megapixel camera sensors from now on. For Nokia's low, and mid-end handsets, the company had been using sensors from Swiss company, STMicroelectronics. However, Nokia has now switched to Korean-based Samsung, because, apparently, they are faster than STMicroelectronics at bringing new sensors to the mobile phone market. Nokia still rely on companies such as OmniVision, and Aptina (image specialists), for their high end camera phone sensors.

Phillips announced all-touscscreen X800 phone    [ 14-05-2008 13:36 ]

Author: Serge Novikov   Source: Unwiredview     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Phillips has announced an all-touschscreen phone – the X800. Oddly, for a touscreen phone, in this day and age, the X800 is only a GSM device (no WLAN either) – so no fast 3G downloads or video calls we're afraid. To round off the connectivity side of things, EDGE support is also not present. The device's camera is a two megapixel affair, OK, but not great. The touchscreen rounds off at 2.9”. Pricing and availability of the X800 is not known at this time. Here are brief tech specs of the X800:

  • Connectivity: Tri-band GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900
  • Display: 240 x 400 pixels (Wide QVGA), 2.9 inches
  • Camera: 2 megapixel camera, with autofocus
  • Memory: Micro SD card slot Extras: Bluetooth

No Nokia N93-style handset for the next two years?    [ 14-05-2008 12:31 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Unwiredview     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The Nokia Blog says that a reliable source is claiming that we will not a phone utilising the form-factor of the Nokia N93/i handset, until sometime in 2010. It wasn't the most popular form-actor, mainly due to its size, but it did have its fans. Two years is quite a long period of time, but we're sure it'll be well worth the wait.

As you probably remember, the original N93 is more of a camcoder than a handset, coming armed with 3.2 Mpix camera, Carl Zeiss Vari-Tessar lens and capable of recoring 30-FPS, VGA video clips. Obviously, Nokia has some more high-end shooters on its roadmap until 2010, but it seems there will be no rotating clamshells.
