Author: Irina Turina   Source: PC World     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Sony has showcased Transfer Jet data transfer wireless system at the CES 2008 show in Las Vegas. It is based on NFC technology (near-field communications) and designed for portable devices. The company provided the example with a digital camera. 45 photos were sent from the camera to a special receiver and then displayed on a TV screen.

According to the company, the Transfer Jet features from 375 to 560 Mbps data transfer speed. Thus this is a higher speed technology compared to USB 2.0 and EEE1394 FireWire. The Transfer Jet works in 4.5 GHz band, at the same time there is no data protection system, as the process runs within several cm. Sony has been working on its NFC-system during several years and it plans the commercial launch in a year or so.
