Signature line of handsets from Vertu to come equipped with 3G    [ 29-08-2008 20:15 ]

Mobile phones sporting 3G capabilities - face-to-face video calling, and faster download speeds than 2.5G handsets, have been available as early as the start of 2003. Vertu haven't equipped many of their handsets with 3G, well, there was one - the Ascent Ti, though it had no support for video calling capabilities. Their Signature line of handsets are to be equipped with 3G for the first time. Again, there is no video calling capabilities onboard. Though, of note, the Signature series also come with Wi-Fi connectivity, and a QVGA resolution display, utelising the OLED technology.

CEO of Sony contemplating breaking off from Ericsson?    [ 29-08-2008 01:22 ]

Author: Klimov Oleg   Source: unwiredview     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Sony's CEO, Howard Stringe, is said to be thinking of breaking away from Ericsson, who collectively form mobile phone giant Sony Ericsson.  Stringer admitted in an interview with a German newspaper that this hadn't been one of their better years - what with poor sales, profit warnings, and the like. He then went on to say said "buying out a partner is never an easy thing", possibly hinting of Sony buying out Ericsson. He said he wants to work alogside Ericsson, and recapture the success they had two years ago - namely with the Walkman and Cybershot line of handsets. Continuing from that sentence, and, most interestingly of all, he said "Or the joint venture will have to find its own solution". So, in a nutshell, it seems if Sony Ericsson cannot recapture the few glory years they had, from 2005-2006, it could very well be that Sony will be giving Ericsson the boot, and going in the mobile phone business alone - and possibly releasing a PSP phone on their own after all.

HTC manufacturing Palm's Treo Pro handset    [ 29-08-2008 01:18 ]

Author: Klimov Oleg   Source: intomobile     Translation by: Administrator    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

HTC have essentially made Palm's forthcoming Treo Pro handset for them. Not surprisingly, the main reason for this is HTC's extensive experience with Windows Mobile-based smartphones. This wouldn't be the first time that HTC have made a handset for another manufacturer - they more-or-less made the XPERIA X1 for Sony Ericsson. Of course, HTC's main priority will still be their own-brand solutions. Remember, as it stands, they look to be the first handset maker torelease a handset running on Google's Andriod OS, set to ship by the end of the fourth quarter of this year.
