Palm OS II smartphones to be release in 2009    [ 26-10-2007 17:24 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Brighthand     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Palm’s new executive chairman Jon Rubinstein confirmed that it will take 18 months before new smartphones on new Palm OS II (Linux-core) come out. Thus we can expect new devices in spring 2009, however this contradicts the guidance given earlier for the end of 2008.

Reportedly, Palm doesn’t plan to license the new platform for other companies. Developers note that Palm OS II will be simpler in use compared to the previous version. At the same time the new OS will contain some key components of Garnet OS (the original Palm OS). Applications for the old platform will still be compatible with the new OS.
