Amazon Kindle: paper books go to the past    [ 20-11-2007 16:01 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: CNET     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Amazon has introduced an e-book reader called Kindle. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos noted that paper books remain the last analog fortress in the digital world affecting the shift to the new technologies. The online giant is aimed at altering the situation and expects that the device will enjoy the commercial success. The Kindle applies e-ink technology, the display is monochrome (the color version is currently under development). The product weighs about 290 g and has a pencil width. The Kindle can store up to 200 books and the SD slot enhances the storage capacity to 1000 books. It lasts for several days to a week on a single charge, the full charge takes 2 hours.

In addition Amazon has launched the Kindle Store online, which currently holds up to 90000 materials, including newspapers, magazines and popular blogs in future. The access to it is provided via EV-DO technology. Sprint is offering the service in the US without insisting on service plans and monthly fees. Besides the Kindle is shipped with the e-dictionary and the Wikipedia access, and will be available at $399.

Rumors: the 3G-iPhone to come to Europe in May 2008    [ 20-11-2007 11:52 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Pocket-lint     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Reportedly, Apple plans to launch European shipments of the iPhone supporting 3G networks in May 2008. The news came from the mobile software developer known as SevenClick referring to the Spanish newspaper El Pais. Telefonica, the biggest mobile service provider in Spain, expects the 3G-iPhone in May 2008. According to the source, the release in Spain will take place prior to that in the UK, Germany and France.

I’d remind you that Steve Jobs, Apple’s head, mentioned that the iPhone with 3G would be released next year. He didn’t specify the date. So we don’t know whether the non-official info by SevenClick is correct.
