Microsoft to offer an alternative to Pocket Internet Explorer    [ 30-03-2007 15:28 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Microsoft Research has released a preview of a Web-browser for Windows Mobile smartphones – the DeepFish Technology Preview. The very fact that Microsoft is preparing an alternative to its Pocket Internet Explorer attracts attention. There are a limited number of slots available, so far, however some first come info has already been posted.

According to the blog, this is a lightweight client application that leverages a powerful server side technology for delivery of content. Roughly speaking, Opera mini is working on the similar basis. That is, a Web-page gets processed by the server first, before popping up on the screen of a mobile phone. At the same time the result page is rendered like on the desktop.

The page turns out lighter compared to an unprocessed one. The browser interface enables you to zoom in a page area you need to view it in a more comfortable way.

Being in the development cycle some features are not implemented or are only partially implemented. For example, DeepFish doesn’t support ActiveX, AJAX, cookies, javascript and HTTP POST.

Follow the link to find out more about DeepFish.
