Along with the release of its new smartphone, the P1, Sony Ericsson is addressing the burning Mac sync issue that has been around for the company's latest smartphones (M600 and P990). The fact of the matter is that the Sony Ericsson P1 will come packaged with plug-in for iSync (it will be available from the company's official site as well, 6Mb in size), which, apart form the P1, will make Mac get along with other Symbian UIQ 3 powered smartphones - M600 and P990. This plug-in will ensure full synchronization of contacts and calendar.

HTC has released a free operating system upgrade to Windows Mobile 6 Professional for some of its communicators sold in Asia under the Dopod mark. The upgrade for Dopod D810 (HTC Trinity) is available from July 10 onwards, for Dopod 838pro (HTC Hermes) – from July 12, for Dopod P800W (HTC Artemis) – from July 13 and for Dopod U1000 (HTC Athena) – from July 20. The upgrade is provided for free download from Asian HTC site.

At the same time this good news doesn’t concern the European market: the OS upgrade is delayed. This spring the manufacturer promised to provide upgrades in May/June. However some sources say the first one will be in September.

Rumors: Dell to release its own UMPC    [ 10-07-2007 10:35 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Engadget     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Some sources mention Dell’s plans to release its own ultra mobile PC. We’ve recently written that Dell was working on a Tablet PC, which belonged to the Latitude series and had a QWERTY-keyboard and a hinge touch sensitive display. Now the company seems to come to the UMPC market as well.

The device is rumored to be compact and without a keyboard. Taking into account the saturation of the UMPC market, the company will probably take an existing UMPC to work on it and sell under its own brand. Sources add that Dell will release a duo of devices, which look to cost $816 and $1496. The info is preliminary, though it came from a reliable source.

Ericsson and Samsung reestablished license agreement    [ 10-07-2007 08:22 ]

Author: Irina Turina     Translation by: Oleg Kononosov    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Press release, July 9, 2007 - Under the terms of the worldwide royalty bearing agreement, Ericsson has granted Samsung a non-exclusive license under Ericsson's patent portfolio for the 2G and 3G mobile telephony standards, to develop, manufacture and sell 2G and 3G subscriber and infrastructure equipment. In return, Samsung provides a royalty payment and a reciprocal license under Samsung's valuable patent portfolio to Ericsson.

Last year Ericsson accused Samsung of violating terms of of the patent cross license agreement and filed a suit against the latter. The parties negotiated and tried to find a way-out, but failed to do so back then. Today they have announced that all lawsuits have been closed.
