Sony’s successor to mylo Wi-Fi communicator    [ 18-12-2007 20:17 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Electronista     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved Sony mylo 2 mobile device. This is an heir of Sony mylo released in the middle of the last year. This device is equipped with a sliding QWERTY-keyboard and meant for instant messaging and working in computer networks. Sony mylo supports Wi-Fi (802.11b), but no cell networks.

Sony mylo 2 recently approved by the FCC has the same form-factor, but slightly different shape. We can judge just by the scheme, the FCC site hasn’t posted pictures of it. The device features an integrated camera and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g support. Well, we have to wait for more details (or the leakage from the FCC site).

Motorola MING 2 to come out in 2Q 2008    [ 18-12-2007 16:51 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: DigiTimes     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

New generation Motorola MING phones will come to the market in 2Q 2008, says Digitimes with the reference to Bill Chen, general manager of mobile device business at Motorola Taiwan. The phone will be released in low-end and high-end versions. Both models will support just GSM/EDGE and hardly 3G. Motorola R&D center in Beijing will continue to handle the development of the high-end Motorola MING 2, while the Taiwan-based Inventec will deal with the entry-level MING.

I’d remind you that Motorola MING debuted in China last March. This is a Linux-powered candy bar with a touchscreen display and a translucent flip. The recent rumors suggest that the company is working on the MOTOMING 2 (Motorola A1600). The new phone won’t differ much from the original, it will feature some improvements.

Live pictures of Android proto    [ 18-12-2007 13:25 ]

Author: Irina Turina   Source: Gizmodo     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

Gizmodo has posted a “live” picture of a mobile device prototype based on Google Android platform. This is a candy bar device with a landscape oriented display and a QWERTY-keyboard. Its design resembles HTC smartphones (it might be designed by this very company) or SDK Android emulator. This is an early proto, so the final version might look other way. The device is quick fast and lightweight on this stage: it works faster than the desktop emulator, says the source.

The first Android devices are said to come out in the second half of 2008. Probably we’ll see among them the final version of this proto.
