Palm has reported preliminary financial results of 2Q 2008, ended November 30. Full results will be unveiled on December 18. Palm expects revenue to be in the range of $345 million to $350 million for 2Q of fiscal year 2008. Under the earlier forecast it was $370 million to $380 million. The company explains revenue shortfall due to a delay in shipping a product that Palm had previously expected to have certified within the quarter.

Gross margin is expected to be in the range of 29.3% to 29.8% on a GAAP basis and 29.5% to 30.0% on a non-GAAP basis, against earlier guidance of 33.3% to 33.8% and 33.5% to 34.0% respectively. Operating expenses are expected to be in the range of $146 million to $149 million on a GAAP basis and $121 million to $124 million on a non-GAAP basis. Palm CEO Ed Colligan reported the company is disappointed with the previous quarter performance, in particular with the fact that its key product hasn’t been certified. However Palm is quite optimistic and hopes to keep up in the next quarter.

Dell is rumored to showcase its Tablet PC Latitude XT on December 11. According to Engadget reported that the info leaked from reliable sources. I’d remind you that the rumors of a new Latitude Tablet PC popped up this spring. The Latitude XT in the transformer form is equipped with a QWERTY-keyboard and a touch-sensitive display. You can revolve the display and put it on the keyboard and use the device as an ordinary Tablet PC. Dell hasn’t yet made any official reports on the release date of the Latitude XT. Anyway we’ll have to wait a short while.
