At the recent quarter conference Palm Ed Colligan, chief of the company, has mentioned the new Treo communicator, which will be announced this year. This is the last promised new communicator for 2006 by Palm.

The announcement will take place in the nearest future, and by the end of the year the new communicator will be offered for sale in more than 20 networks of different operators, says Mr. Colligan. The device is expected to have low price.

According to the non-official info, the new Treo (Treo 680) will cost $300 or even less. It is designed for GSM networks and might work in EDGE standard. It is expected to be powered by Palm OS Garnet. Design should be similar to the recently announced Treo 750v, also without the antenna. The camera will have a VGA resolution. Under the preliminary data, it will differ from the Treo 650 in 64 MB RAM.

Mobion-1: a proto of a fuel cell charger for portable devices    [ 22-09-2006 19:02 ]

Author: Verà Kozlova     Translation by: Rytchkova Anja    Send news to friend  Discuss in forum

The idea of fuel cell power sources is gradually developing. MTI Micro has introduced a proto of a charger Mobion-1 sized as a pocket book. The company sees its advantages in 100% methanol and light weight.

Mobion-1 can charge different types of portable devices, like PDA and MP3-players. For example, an average cell phone battery can be charged by it for 30 times, i.e. 30 extra days of work on a single charge every day. A compact digital camera can snap about 5 thousand photos, and the MP3-palyer can be charged 40 times.

MTI Micro has already signed an agreement with Samsung, and Samsung expects to get the device for tests in 4Q this year.

Motorola is about to make the phone vending process automated. It expects to install vending machines offering cell phones and accessories in the US.

The vending machine will sell 12 kinds of phones and 18 accessories. Users will be able to purchase mid- to high-end models, including the RAZR and the Q. Using a touchscreen, customers can pick a phone’s style, color and accessories.

By the way it’s possible to use credit cards and buy with or without a service plan for operators. The machines will be called InstantMoto and be installed in nearly two dozen malls and airports nationwide. The first machine has been already set in Chicago.
