Toshiba Dynabook Satellite K15/K10 – a new series of notebooks featuring higher protection    [ 14-06-2006 15:12 ]

Toshiba has announced a new notebook series and two models in it – Toshiba Dynabook Satellite K15 and K10. Both notebooks are equipped with 15.4” LCD. The sales are set for June 22, 2006. The main peculiarity about the new models is that they can stand a fall from a 70 cm height and up to 100 cm3 of spill, that won’t affect the work.

The K15 will be equipped with Intel Core Duo processor based on Intel 945GM Express chipset, and the K10 will involve Intel Celeron M processor based on ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M.

The short specs:

  • RAM: 512 MB, up to 2 GB
  • Optical drive: DVD-ROÌ/CD-R/RW (various options)
  • Networking: IEEE802.11 a/b/g (for PSK1520DWN8GKW); 1000Base-T (for PSK1520DWN8GKW and
  • PSK151RDWN8EKW)/100Base-TX/10Base-T
  • HDD: 40 GB (5400 rpm)
  • Interface: slots for SD and PC cards; 3xUSB2.0 ports, VGA and S-Video out
  • Dimensions: 368x268x36.9 mm
  • Weight: 3 kg

This year companies are intensively introducing HSDPA (High Speed Data Packet Access) in global scale. This time the French operator SFR has started providing the services based on this high speed data transfer standard, it launched HSDPA in Paris and South France.

SFR is the second largest mobile operator in France, its subscribers base amounts to 17.3 million people. Nokia has become the main provider of the stuff necessary for launching the services. Nokia’s HSDPA solution allows upgrading WCDMA-networks using software upgrade.

HSDPA enables 4 times faster speeds to download data compared to the current GSM-network. Nokia positions itself as the leased on the HSDPA market with 20 contracts all over the world.
