3GSM Congress, Cannes 2004. Products from NokiaContents, all articles from 3GSM Congress You had the ability to see models that were already presented, Nokia 5140 for example. The impressions from this phone are rather usual, protective case like in Nokia 5100, was added with camera and small window for it, on the whole the phone is pretty similar to those that are built on 40-series platform. Considering that this is a niche solution, you can’t expect high sales from this model. The model will be adored by youth, but once again the audience is limited. Another thing you could do while being at Nokia’s booth is play a little with Fitness Monitor, which is a typical accessory, once again I can hardly understand what the use of such accessory is and whom it is targeted for. The company tries to find its face rapidly, but so far the search was not successful. The biggest announcement in Cannes from Nokia, was presentation of new communicator 9500. The phone has built-in WiFi, almost full set of technologies, that are present today. The price will be around 800 Euros, the model will go for sale starting from summer. This is a good solution for business users who were waiting for replacement of old communicator for quite a while. But earlier on this such product did not have any competitors, nowadays smartphones from Motorola and other companies will be ones. The promotion of new communicator will not be an easy task. On the whole the impression from company’s representatives, press-conference and viewing of future product line is not clear at all, the company starts losing its step by step development’s potential. The changes are not really noticeable, but first calls were already noticed. The company has not been so successful, as two years ago. If necessary steps will not be made in nearest future, the company might even step aside and give away some percent to other manufacturers on European market. Sad thing indeed, but almost all my colleagues agreed on that, Nokia is not as strong, as it was before. Company’s weakness is hidden under flowery words.
