The first information about Samsung products in 200512.01.05. We have added information about such models as Astro, Athena, Carmen, Lotus, Midas. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately the data about the phones still comes from the company and it is free to access. Samsung has allowed a loss of information connected with a part of roadmap for 2005. About one third models that will appear in 2005 are already known to everyone. That's curious the slides that got into the network describe products of the second and the third quarter of 2005 and selectively. We can only suppose such practice of releasing such roadmap versions will get deep into the past, the information gets to the rivals too often and then comes to the open sources. The article will tell only about the products described in the network and we won't publish any expanded reports on the product line of 2005. The thing we'll note that FM-radio will appear in some products by the company including low-end models (the company didn't release such ones in 2004 and old models served as low-end phones) this year. The second important point is the expansion of a model line in three directions: low-end solutions, business models and smartphones. The company doesn't plan to play any great role in the promotion of smartphones till the end of 2005 and the first models capable of any serious competition with the existing players will appear in November or December 2005. Samsung D500 may serve as an example of a business phone and there will be about three devices of this class represented in 2005. Before passing to considering models we should note the total number of models by Samsung in 2005 will get about 29 and about 19 of them will finally get to the market. Samsung Tiny is a continuation of the E8x0 line and here we may still find a VGA-camera and a 65K TFT screen with the resolution of 128x160 pixels. The dimensions are 85x43x21 mm and the weight is 75 grams. There is a 40-tones polyphony, a support for mp3 files, AAC. That's the first time a Push To Talk function appeared. The company intends the phone as a middle-segment solution (250-260 USD) and the model is probable to appear in the market in the 2Q of 2005. Samsung Essence is also a version of D500 different in another disposition of a camera module (a rotational brick) and having the dimensions of 90x46x23 mm. Functionally the phone is a copy of D500 if not considering some software changes. The release of the device may be expected three months after the launch of D500. Samsung Witness is a simplified variant of D500 different in another disposition of a one-megapixel camera. Represented as a plainer model than D500. ClamshellsSamsung Odin is another variant of D500 but in a clamshell form-factor. The model got the number of E720 and will appear in the end of February with the price of 350 Euro. Its external 65K OLED screen has the resolution of 96x96 pixels. The size is 91x45x23.3 mm and the phone weights about 87 grams. The device is a complete copy of D500 and is peculiar in having control buttons for an mp3 player on the external surface. The camera is 1 megapixel while D500 has a 1.3 megapixels. Samsung Bally is a continuation of E720 model with the release time of the beginning of the 3Q of 2005. The difference is the camera got 1.3 megapixels, Push To Talk function appeared and an outer 65K OLED screen with the resolution of 80x64 pixels. The polyphony is 64 tones and such formats as AAC, AAC+ and mp3 are supported. There is an FM-radio in the device. But unfortunately bluetooth is absent here. Samsung Muse is one more variant of E720 equipped with 100 MB of the internal memory, an external OLED 65K screen with the resolution of 128x96 pixels. The dimensions are 91x45x24 mm and the weight is 95 grams. The camera is one megapixel and there is a flash in the phone. The model will appear in the market in autumn and in some kind it's a rival of E720 since offers only a bit worse characteristics. Samsung Comet I is a plain clamshell supporting mp3 files as a call melody but equipped with a simple UFB display with the resolution of 96x64 pixels. The model costs not much and will play its role in a middle price segment. Samsung Astro - is a middle class model with a traditional support for mp3, a large external screen (monochrome), 64-tones polyphony. The internal screen is 65K TFT. An integrated VGA camera is also present. The model will appear in the 3Q and cost about 220-230 USD. Samsung Athena is a version of Samsung Muse equipped with a 1.3 megapixel camera, an internal 65K OLED screen. Samsung Carmen will appear in the end of 3Q probably as the first phone equipped with a 3 megapixel camera, expansion slot, and mp3 player with a support for SRS. The price is not defined yet (450 USD + a segment). Samsung Lotus is expected in the beginning of the 3Q or in the end of the 2Q. The raisin is its 2 megapixel camera, an external 65K TFT screen, an internal 262K one. All the rest characteristics are standard; an expansion slot for RS-MMC cards is present. Samsung Midas is a typical middle-class clamshell (Muse again) different in FM-radio. The main screen is 65K. The model is to appear in the 3Q but its specifications are being discussed still (it may get equipped with a 2 megapixel camera). New form-factor - ХWhen saying a new form-factor we mean models with a rotational screen that may be positioned vertically and horizontally. Several such models will appear in 2005 and now we'll tell about two of them. Samsung Z130. This is an UMTS model also working in GSM 900/1800 networks. The phone has the dimensions of 112x46x20 mm. Its 262K screen has the resolution of 176x220 pixels. There is also an integrated 1-megapixel camera, 64-tones polyphony, a support for mp3 and bluetooth. Samsung Magic is functionally a continuation of Z130 equipped with a stereo loudspeaker. The plus of this device is the presence of an expansion connector for memory cards. Its 262K screen has a QVGA resolution. SmartphonesSamsung B-Bob is the first smartphone equipped with a two-megapixel camera and run by Windows Mobile 2003. The processor has an operating speed of 400 MHz, 128 MB of ROM and 64 MB of RAM. The dimensions are 140x51x24 mm and the weight is 134 grams. The screen is 262K and has the resolution of 240x320 pixels. The phone is equipped with an expansion connector for miniSD cards, IrDA, Bluetooth 2.0, and WiFi. Samsung D720 is a trial band GSM smartphone based on the 60 platform. An integrated 1.1 megapixel camera has a macro-shooting mode (CCD). The dimensions are 101x51x24 mm. The screen is 262K TFT with the resolution of 176x220 pixels. There is a support for Bluetooth. Samsung Javelin is a Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone SE based smartphone. Triple band GSM, the screen is 65K with the resolution of 176x220 pixels. There is integrated megapixel camera, miniSD connector, and a support for Bluetooth. The phone is very similar to Motorola MPx220 technically. Samsung Thor is the first device by the company based on Windows Mobile 2005 (Magneto) that will soon be announced. That is interesting to know there is an integrated hard drive, a navi wheel (like in iPod players), and a megapixel camera, Bluetooth, USB 2.0. The screen has the resolution of 240x320 pixels.
