Maxon - many models but not many ideas

Contents, all articles from CeBIT

Traditionally Maxon showed a large number of phones but it is difficult to choose something really interesting. All phones are very similar to each other. On the whole all these products have a typical Asian design which you'll never mix up with other ones. This year the company showed several new models in the popular form-factor (similar to Motorola v80 but with external antenna), several covers for clamshell phones. The company equipped most of its new models with cameras, better displays compared to older models. Taking into account that the size of the company is not large and it has too much models, we can say that its production can't compete with devices of leading manufacturers. Nevertherless, we will tell about the products shown on the exhibiton.

MX-A30 was demonstrated last year. It is a standard clamshell phone which has a monochrome external and TFT 65 K internal displays. The phone supports 40-tones polyphony, MMS, Java. It has an integrated VGA-camera which allows to record video clips in MJPEG format.

MX-C90 is a fashion phone with a slider. I liked its design, phone sides are made from the other material with its own pattern. Functions of this handset are typical to A30, but it doesn't have an external display because it is a slider. An external antenna spoils the impression from design.

MX-C80 is one more version of A30. The main differences are the following: PhotoCall function in the phonebook and OLED display capable to support up to 256 colors (4 colors in reality) instead of monochromic one.

We can't find any differences between MX-C80 and MX-C180. In my opinion they have identical functions and differ only by design. As for the last model has more pleasant design.

The next model is MX-C20. It has the same features as A30 except video recording. The same features has MX-C110, the only difference is 32-tones polyphony which sounds better.

All phones mentioned above are focused to jentelmen. Of course, the company didn't forget about women. There a few models for them as well. For example, MX-7990 has two screens: external OLED display and TFT 65K internal display. The phone is dual band, it supports GPRS, WAP, EMS and 40-tones polyphony. MX-v10 has the same capabilities but the external screen is monochromic.

MY-V30 differs from the base model by the follwing features: it supports MMS and Java. MC-C11 has the same specifiactions, we couldn't find any differnces. MX-7750 is also very similar. MX-C160 is a sucessor of the smallest phones line. It has a screen which is capable to support up to 4096 colors, monochromic external display. It doesn't have such functions as Java and MMS.

It's a pity but every year Maxon tries to attract attention of visitors by number of models but not by its functions and capabilities. Many photos of phones with different design but similar functionality were made. Phones of Maxon is a kind of puzzle for visitors to understand what differences one product has from the other.
