ViewSonic на MWC 2011. Dual SIM and Brick Smartphones

In Barcelona the company showed models already unveiled in January at CES 2011, but there was one new product announced several days prior to the start of the congress.

ViewPad 4

This model was introduced at CES 2011, but I was not there and wanted to put hands on the product. It is an Android smartphone, which resembles a brick. Nevertheless, the phone fits any hand well. Austere body shape and similarly styled elements (jacks and sensor buttons icons) make ViewPad 4 stand out among the crowded marketplace of Android devices.

  • Class: smartphone
  • Form factor: candybar
  • Body materials: plastic and aluminium
  • OS: Android 2.3 (with the promised upgrade to 2.4 (?))
  • Networks: GSM/EDGE, UMTS/HSDPA
  • Processor: 1 GHz on Qualcomm MSM8255
  • RAM: 512 MB
  • Memory for data storage: 2 GB + microSD slot
  • Interfaces: Wi-Fi (b/g/n/), Bluetooth 3.0, microUSB, 3.5 mm and miniHDMI jacks
  • Screen: a 4.1" capacitive TFT with 800x480 (WVGA) resolution
  • Camera: 5 MP with autofocus; frontal 0.3 MP for video calls
  • Navigation: GPS/AGPS
  • Battery: 1400 mAh
  • Dimensions: 122 x 66 x 10 mm
  • Weight: 143 g.

Unfortunately, we have no details when ViewPad 4 becomes available for purchase and the same applies to the price. The product deserves attention if you likely unique looks.

V350 smart phone

This "robot" was announced days before MWC 2011 and it definitely belongs here. V350 supports dual SIM card operation. In terms of design the model can be classified as a traditional inexpensive Android solution. It is convenient to hold, has compact dimensions and boasts sensor buttons under the screen and standard Android characteristics.

  • Class: smartphone
  • Form factor: candybar
  • Body materials: plastic
  • OS: Android 2.2
  • Networks: SIM1 GSM/EDGE, UMTS/HSDPA, SIM 2 GSM/EDGE
  • Processor: 600 MHz on Qualcomm MSM7227
  • RAM: 512 MB
  • Memory for data storage: 512 MB + microSD slot
  • Interfaces: Wi-Fi (b/g), Bluetooth 2.1, microUSB and 3.5 mm jacks
  • Screen: a 3.5" capacitive TFT with 320x480 (HVGA) resolution
  • Camera: 5 MP with autofocus
  • Navigation: GPS/AGPS
  • Battery: 1400 mAh
  • Dimensions: 114 x 60.9 x 12.4 mm
  • Weight: 125 g.

The model is likely to appear in shops around April for $370-510, but the exact price will be known a bit later. In general V350 is a conventional mid-priced smartphone unusual by its dual SIM support, which is a rare feat among Android powered devices. There will be some consumers interested in the model.
